Lightwire Threat Feed Service

Security should just work. That’s why we’ve built the Lightwire Threat Feed Service (LTFS) into the heart of our network. It’s always on, always protecting across nearly all our NZ based internet services.

  • No extra cost
  • No setup needed

Cyber threats are growing in scale and sophistication, and New Zealand businesses are increasingly being targeted. We’re proud to announce that we’re adding nationally-backed protections to help shield our customers from malware and phishing attacks that can disrupt operations, compromise data, and damage reputations.

Integrating these services directly into our network helps to ensure we’re making advanced cybersecurity effortless and giving our customers stronger defences without the complexity or cost.

Introducing MFN & PDS

Under our new Lightwire Threat Feed Service (LTFS), we’ve kicked off by adding two key services from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC); Malware Free Networks (MFN) and the Phishing Disruption Service (PDS).

MFN is an award-winning, threat detection and disruption service that provides near real-time threat intelligence reflecting current malicious activity targeting New Zealand businesses.

The Phishing Disruption Service™ (PDS) is designed to strengthen cyber resilience against phishing by stopping it before it causes widespread harm. It sources high-confidence phishing indicators that can then be used for disruption.

These services are delivered through threat intelligence feeds curated from various high-confidence sources, including domestic and international cybersecurity partners and cyber defence capabilities.

What types of threats does LTFS protect against?

The Lightwire Threat Feed Service (LTFS) protects against a wide range of threats including malware, phishing, remote scanning, and exploitation attempts.

With MFN and PDS integrated, LTFS adds advanced protection against threats that spread via DNS, and IP connections, stopping attacks before they can impact your business.

Enabled By Default

LTFS is enabled by default for all eligible services and customers with no configuration needed.

Opt in/opt out is managed at the service level, giving you control over individual services.

If you want to opt out of a service, you can do so easily via our customer and partner portal, illume and select that specific service.

Check if LTFS is Enabled

You can test check whether you are protected from these threats by clicking on the buttons below.

If the page loads successfully, this indicates that either LTFS does NOT protect you, or LTFS may be in place as detection only.

If the page fails to load, this means services ARE actively blocking malicious activity.

Data Privacy

By default, LTFS, Malware Free Networks (MFN) is designed to operate without exposing personal data to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). No personally identifiable information (PII) is shared with third parties as part of this service unless the customer has a signed agreement with the third party and provides Lightwire with the UUID to identify you to the third parties as.

Lightwire may share limited analytical feedback with the NCSC to help enhance the effectiveness of the MFN threat intelligence feed.

This feedback includes:

  • The unique identifier for representing Lightwire Customers
  • The specific threat indicator that was triggered
  • The date and time the indicator was detected

By default, any data shared with the NCSC is attributed to the reference “Lightwire Customers” rather than the individual customer. However, if a customer explicitly opts in with the NCSC at the ‘customer consent’ level, the NCSC will receive the customer’s UUID in place of Lightwire’s.

No other information is shared.
