Emergency Services – 111 Calls on Lightwire Voice
At Lightwire, we’re committed to ensuring your safety and access to emergency services when you need them most. If you’re using a Lightwire voice service that supports standard calling (VoIP), here’s what you need to know about 111 calls:
Can I call 111 from my Lightwire Voice Service?
Yes. If you have a Lightwire Code Standard Voice Service (VoIP), you can make calls to 111 in the event of an emergency, provided you have power and internet connectivity.
What services does 111 connect me to?
Dialling 111 connects you to New Zealand Emergency Service Organisations:
- Police
- Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ)
- Ambulance services
These services are available to respond to emergencies that pose a risk to life, property, or safety.
When should I call 111?
Only use 111 for genuine emergencies where urgent assistance is needed from the Police, Fire, or Ambulance services.
Examples of when to call 111:
- A fire
- A serious car accident
- A crime in progress
- A medical emergency
If your situation is not urgent, please use the appropriate non-emergency contact channels.
What information does Lightwire share when you call 111?
When you make a 111 call using a Lightwire voice service, we may share the following with Emergency Service Organisations:
- Your Calling Party Number (the number you’re calling from)
- Location information associated with your service (e.g. the address registered to your account)
This helps emergency responders reach you quickly and accurately.
What if someone makes a false or accidental 111 call?
We take all emergency calls seriously. We follow industry standards and use reasonable measures to reduce the impact of accidental or non-genuine 111 calls to protect the integrity of the emergency call system.
